[A method of determining NADH-methemoglobin reductase activity using amino derivatives of o-benzoquinone]. 1987

E F Lunets, and E Ch Speranskaia, and S D Speranskiĭ

Rate of methemoglobin reduction was increased in erythrocyte hemolysates in presence of 4-N-(p-sulfanilino)-5-methoxy-1.2-benzoquinone. Kinetic parameters of total reaction and of individual steps showed that the substance and other amino-derivatives of ortho-benzoquinone could be used for estimation of methemoglobin reductase activity.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007202 Indicators and Reagents Substances used for the detection, identification, analysis, etc. of chemical, biological, or pathologic processes or conditions. Indicators are substances that change in physical appearance, e.g., color, at or approaching the endpoint of a chemical titration, e.g., on the passage between acidity and alkalinity. Reagents are substances used for the detection or determination of another substance by chemical or microscopical means, especially analysis. Types of reagents are precipitants, solvents, oxidizers, reducers, fluxes, and colorimetric reagents. D007700 Kinetics The rate dynamics in chemical or physical systems.
D009247 NADH, NADPH Oxidoreductases A group of oxidoreductases that act on NADH or NADPH. In general, enzymes using NADH or NADPH to reduce a substrate are classified according to the reverse reaction, in which NAD+ or NADP+ is formally regarded as an acceptor. This subclass includes only those enzymes in which some other redox carrier is the acceptor. (Enzyme Nomenclature, 1992, p100) EC 1.6. D010084 Oxidation-Reduction A chemical reaction in which an electron is transferred from one molecule to another. The electron-donating molecule is the reducing agent or reductant; the electron-accepting molecule is the oxidizing agent or oxidant. Reducing and oxidizing agents function as conjugate reductant-oxidant pairs or redox pairs (Lehninger, Principles of Biochemistry, 1982, p471). Redox,Oxidation Reduction
D011809 Quinones Hydrocarbon rings which contain two ketone moieties in any position. They can be substituted in any position except at the ketone groups.
D011817 Rabbits A burrowing plant-eating mammal with hind limbs that are longer than its fore limbs. It belongs to the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha, and in contrast to hares, possesses 22 instead of 24 pairs of chromosomes. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D001557 Benzenesulfonates Organic salts and esters of benzenesulfonic acid.
D016227 Benzoquinones Benzene rings which contain two ketone moieties in any position. They can be substituted in any position except at the ketone groups. 1,2-Benzoquinones,1,4-Benzoquinones,Benzodiones,2,5-Cyclohexadiene-1,4-Diones,o-Benzoquinones,p-Benzoquinones
