Testicular autotransplantation after traumatic castration. 1987

J Govrin-Yehudain, and A R Moscona, and N Calderon, and B Hirshowitz

Severe genitoperineal trauma with total avulsion of testicles in a 7-year-old boy resulted from a road accident. Soft tissues were reconstructed by local flaps and skin grafts. The only testicle that was found was reimplanted in his biceps muscle in an attempt to restore endocrine function. A human chorionic gonadotropin test showed no response, indicating that the transplanted tissue did not survive.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D010413 Penis The external reproductive organ of males. It is composed of a mass of erectile tissue enclosed in three cylindrical fibrous compartments. Two of the three compartments, the corpus cavernosa, are placed side-by-side along the upper part of the organ. The third compartment below, the corpus spongiosum, houses the urethra. D002648 Child A person 6 to 12 years of age. An individual 2 to 5 years old is CHILD, PRESCHOOL. Children
D006063 Chorionic Gonadotropin A gonadotropic glycoprotein hormone produced primarily by the PLACENTA. Similar to the pituitary LUTEINIZING HORMONE in structure and function, chorionic gonadotropin is involved in maintaining the CORPUS LUTEUM during pregnancy. CG consists of two noncovalently linked subunits, alpha and beta. Within a species, the alpha subunit is virtually identical to the alpha subunits of the three pituitary glycoprotein hormones (TSH, LH, and FSH), but the beta subunit is unique and confers its biological specificity (CHORIONIC GONADOTROPIN, BETA SUBUNIT, HUMAN). D012611 Scrotum A cutaneous pouch of skin containing the testicles and spermatic cords. Scrotums
D013524 Surgical Flaps Tongues of skin and subcutaneous tissue, sometimes including muscle, cut away from the underlying parts but often still attached at one end. They retain their own microvasculature which is also transferred to the new site. They are often used in plastic surgery for filling a defect in a neighboring region.
