An evaluation of primary enamel pretreatments and their effects on resin retention. 1978

S Smutka, and J Jedrychowski, and A Caputo

The effects of various enamel pretreatments on bond strengths between primary enamel and resin were investigated. Pretreatments included: removal of the outer enamel surface, varied exposure to phosphoric acid, and the use of an organic coupling agent. Results indicated highest bond strengths utilizing acid pretreatments and an organic coupling agent.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007202 Indicators and Reagents Substances used for the detection, identification, analysis, etc. of chemical, biological, or pathologic processes or conditions. Indicators are substances that change in physical appearance, e.g., color, at or approaching the endpoint of a chemical titration, e.g., on the passage between acidity and alkalinity. Reagents are substances used for the detection or determination of another substance by chemical or microscopical means, especially analysis. Types of reagents are precipitants, solvents, oxidizers, reducers, fluxes, and colorimetric reagents. D010756 Phosphoric Acids Inorganic derivatives of phosphoric acid (H3PO4). Note that organic derivatives of phosphoric acids are listed under ORGANOPHOSPHATES. Pyrophosphoric Acids,Acids, Phosphoric,Acids, Pyrophosphoric
D001840 Dental Bonding An adhesion procedure for orthodontic attachments, such as plastic DENTAL CROWNS. This process usually includes the application of an adhesive material (DENTAL CEMENTS) and letting it harden in-place by light or chemical curing. D003743 Dental Enamel A hard thin translucent layer of calcified substance which envelops and protects the dentin of the crown of the tooth. It is the hardest substance in the body and is almost entirely composed of calcium salts. Under the microscope, it is composed of thin rods (enamel prisms) held together by cementing substance, and surrounded by an enamel sheath.
