Continuous EKG monitoring systems. 1987

S Decker

This article discusses the employment of continuous electrocardiographic (EKG) monitoring as a tool utilized by the nurse to augment his/her expert assessment skills. The components of the EKG monitoring system and their specific functions are addressed with special emphasis on the importance of proper lead attachment, alarm settings, and documentation of the rhythm strips. Specific techniques for preventing and/or trouble-shooting monitoring problems are also presented.
