Two polyclonal antibodies directed against paramyosin and tropomyosin from Owenia fusiformis (a marine polychete annelid) were obtained using a new method of immunization. After purification by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, proteins were transferred onto a nitrocellulose sheet using the Western blot technique. The proteins bound to their cellulose support were injected into rabbits without Freund's adjuvant and without solubilization of nitrocellulose with dimethyl sulfoxide. Highly specific polyclonal antibodies were generated.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007122 Immunoelectrophoresis A technique that combines protein electrophoresis and double immunodiffusion. In this procedure proteins are first separated by gel electrophoresis (usually agarose), then made visible by immunodiffusion of specific antibodies. A distinct elliptical precipitin arc results for each protein detectable by the antisera.
D011077 Polychaeta A class of marine annelids including sandworms, tube worms, clamworms, and fire worms. It includes also the genus Myxicola infundibulum. Myxicola,Myxicolas,Polychaetas
D011817 Rabbits A burrowing plant-eating mammal with hind limbs that are longer than its fore limbs. It belongs to the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha, and in contrast to hares, possesses 22 instead of 24 pairs of chromosomes. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D000917 Antibody Formation The production of ANTIBODIES by proliferating and differentiated B-LYMPHOCYTES under stimulation by ANTIGENS. Antibody Production,Antibody Response,Antibody Responses,Formation, Antibody,Production, Antibody,Response, Antibody,Responses, Antibody
D000918 Antibody Specificity The property of antibodies which enables them to react with some ANTIGENIC DETERMINANTS and not with others. Specificity is dependent on chemical composition, physical forces, and molecular structure at the binding site. Antibody Specificities,Specificities, Antibody,Specificity, Antibody
D014335 Tropomyosin A protein found in the thin filaments of muscle fibers. It inhibits contraction of the muscle unless its position is modified by TROPONIN. Paramyosin,Miniparamyosin,Paratropomyosin,Tropomyosin Mg,alpha-Tropomyosin,beta-Tropomyosin,gamma-Tropomyosin,Mg, Tropomyosin, alpha Tropomyosin, beta Tropomyosin, gamma Tropomyosin
