Department of Clinical Sciences, University of Papua New Guinea, Boroko.

In a 3-year period there were 25 admissions to Port Moresby General Hospital because of non obstetric injuries to the female genital tract. The injuries were caused by voluntary coitus, rape, assault and falls. The most frequent injury was a laceration to the posterior fornix of the vagina. Although rape was frequently committed in Port Moresby, it was not the major cause of genital tract injury.
