[Effect of pentagastrin on the myoelectric activity of the pyloric sphincter, body of the stomach and the duodenum]. 1986

K A Shemerovskiĭ, and V I Ovsiannikov

In chronic experiments on rabbits, i.v. administration of the pentagastrin (0.01-1.0 micrograms/kg) exerted inhibitory effects on the myoelectrical activity of the pylorus and stomach, whereas the effect of pentagastrin on the duodenum was rather activating. The threshold dose of pentagastrin for pylorus was 5 times smaller than for the duodenum and 10 times smaller than for the stomach. Possible mechanisms of the pentagastrin effect on the contractile activity of the pylorus, stomach and duodenum smooth muscles, are discussed.

D007275 Injections, Intravenous Injections made into a vein for therapeutic or experimental purposes. Intravenous Injections,Injection, Intravenous,Intravenous Injection
D009119 Muscle Contraction A process leading to shortening and/or development of tension in muscle tissue. Muscle contraction occurs by a sliding filament mechanism whereby actin filaments slide inward among the myosin filaments. D009130 Muscle, Smooth Unstriated and unstriped muscle, one of the muscles of the internal organs, blood vessels, hair follicles, etc. Contractile elements are elongated, usually spindle-shaped cells with centrally located nuclei. Smooth muscle fibers are bound together into sheets or bundles by reticular fibers and frequently elastic nets are also abundant. D010418 Pentagastrin A synthetic pentapeptide that has effects like gastrin when given parenterally. It stimulates the secretion of gastric acid, pepsin, and intrinsic factor, and has been used as a diagnostic aid. Acignost,Gastrin Pentapeptide,Peptavlon,Pentapeptide, Gastrin
D011708 Pylorus The region of the STOMACH at the junction with the DUODENUM. It is marked by the thickening of circular muscle layers forming the pyloric sphincter to control the opening and closure of the lumen. Pyloric Sphincter,Pyloric Sphincters,Sphincter, Pyloric,Sphincters, Pyloric
D011817 Rabbits A burrowing plant-eating mammal with hind limbs that are longer than its fore limbs. It belongs to the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha, and in contrast to hares, possesses 22 instead of 24 pairs of chromosomes. D004386 Duodenum The shortest and widest portion of the SMALL INTESTINE adjacent to the PYLORUS of the STOMACH. It is named for having the length equal to about the width of 12 fingers. Duodenums
D005769 Gastrointestinal Motility The motor activity of the GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT. Intestinal Motility,Gastrointestinal Motilities,Intestinal Motilities,Motilities, Gastrointestinal,Motilities, Intestinal,Motility, Gastrointestinal,Motility, Intestinal
