[The intraorganic lymphatic bed of the mucous membrane of the tongue]. 1986

V K Kostiuk

The intraorganic lymphatic bed of the canine tongue mucous membrane is presented by the superficial and deep capillary networks and by the plexuses of the intraorganic lymphatic vessels. The capillaries of the superficial network in the thickness of the mucous membrane of the dorsal surface of the lingual tip, body and root form the lymphatic bed of the mechanical and gustatory papillas. The diameter of the capillaries in the both networks and in the intraorganic lymphatic vessels is greater in the mucous membrane of the ventral surface of the tip and of the lateral surfaces of the lingual body, and density of their arrangement is higher in the mucous membrane on the dorsal surface of the lingual tip, body and root. The capillaries of the superficial network in all areas of the lingual mucous membrane are thinner than those of the deep network, and the loops formed by the capillaries of the superficial network are less than the loops of the deep network.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008208 Lymphatic System A system of organs and tissues that process and transport immune cells and LYMPH. Lymphatic Systems
D008297 Male Males
D009092 Mucous Membrane An EPITHELIUM with MUCUS-secreting cells, such as GOBLET CELLS. It forms the lining of many body cavities, such as the DIGESTIVE TRACT, the RESPIRATORY TRACT, and the reproductive tract. Mucosa, rich in blood and lymph vessels, comprises an inner epithelium, a middle layer (lamina propria) of loose CONNECTIVE TISSUE, and an outer layer (muscularis mucosae) of SMOOTH MUSCLE CELLS that separates the mucosa from submucosa. D004285 Dogs The domestic dog, Canis familiaris, comprising about 400 breeds, of the carnivore family CANIDAE. They are worldwide in distribution and live in association with people. (Walker's Mammals of the World, 5th ed, p1065) Canis familiaris,Dog
D005260 Female Females
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D013650 Taste Buds Small sensory organs which contain gustatory receptor cells, basal cells, and supporting cells. Taste buds in humans are found in the epithelia of the tongue, palate, and pharynx. They are innervated by the CHORDA TYMPANI NERVE (a branch of the facial nerve) and the GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL NERVE. Bud, Taste,Buds, Taste,Taste Bud
D014059 Tongue A muscular organ in the mouth that is covered with pink tissue called mucosa, tiny bumps called papillae, and thousands of taste buds. The tongue is anchored to the mouth and is vital for chewing, swallowing, and for speech. Tongues
