Varied types of urinary calculi in a patient with cystinosis without renal tubular acidosis. 1986

J Black, and F B Stapleton, and S Roy, and J Ward, and H N Noe

Renal calculi have rarely been cited as a major manifestation of cystinosis. We report a case history of a child with multiple urate calculi and a calcium oxalate stone resulting from proximal tubular dysfunction that was not associated with bicarbonate wastage.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007223 Infant A child between 1 and 23 months of age. Infants
D008297 Male Males
D003554 Cystinosis A metabolic disease characterized by the defective transport of CYSTINE across the lysosomal membrane due to mutation of a membrane protein cystinosin. This results in cystine accumulation and crystallization in the cells causing widespread tissue damage. In the KIDNEY, nephropathic cystinosis is a common cause of RENAL FANCONI SYNDROME. D000141 Acidosis, Renal Tubular A group of genetic disorders of the KIDNEY TUBULES characterized by the accumulation of metabolically produced acids with elevated plasma chloride, hyperchloremic metabolic ACIDOSIS. Defective renal acidification of URINE (proximal tubules) or low renal acid excretion (distal tubules) can lead to complications such as HYPOKALEMIA, hypercalcinuria with NEPHROLITHIASIS and NEPHROCALCINOSIS, and RICKETS.
