Diabetes mellitus with immune complex glomerulonephritis. 1979

S Aziz, and A H Cohen, and R L Winer, and F Llach, and S G Massry

The present study describes 3 patients with the simultaneous occurrence of diabetic nephropathy and immune-complex mediated glomerulonephritis. Renal manifestation included proteinuria and hematuria which were preceded by or co-existent with an infectious process. Renal manifestation included proteinuria and hematuria which were preceded by or co-existent with an infectious process. Renal histology showed the characteristic change of diabetic nephropathy along with those of immune complex glomerulonephritis. Immunofluorescence studies showed a linear pattern with a superimposed granular pattern of IgG and C3 deposits. Renal function and urinary findings improved in the 2 patients who were followed up.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007074 Immunoglobulin G The major immunoglobulin isotype class in normal human serum. There are several isotype subclasses of IgG, for example, IgG1, IgG2A, and IgG2B. D007678 Kidney Glomerulus A cluster of convoluted capillaries beginning at each nephric tubule in the kidney and held together by connective tissue. Glomerulus, Kidney
D008297 Male Males
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D003176 Complement C3 A glycoprotein that is central in both the classical and the alternative pathway of COMPLEMENT ACTIVATION. C3 can be cleaved into COMPLEMENT C3A and COMPLEMENT C3B, spontaneously at low level or by C3 CONVERTASE at high level. The smaller fragment C3a is an ANAPHYLATOXIN and mediator of local inflammatory process. The larger fragment C3b binds with C3 convertase to form C5 convertase. D003928 Diabetic Nephropathies KIDNEY injuries associated with diabetes mellitus and affecting KIDNEY GLOMERULUS; ARTERIOLES; KIDNEY TUBULES; and the interstitium. Clinical signs include persistent PROTEINURIA, from microalbuminuria progressing to ALBUMINURIA of greater than 300 mg/24 h, leading to reduced GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE and END-STAGE RENAL DISEASE. D005455 Fluorescent Antibody Technique Test for tissue antigen using either a direct method, by conjugation of antibody with fluorescent dye (FLUORESCENT ANTIBODY TECHNIQUE, DIRECT) or an indirect method, by formation of antigen-antibody complex which is then labeled with fluorescein-conjugated anti-immunoglobulin antibody (FLUORESCENT ANTIBODY TECHNIQUE, INDIRECT). The tissue is then examined by fluorescence microscopy.
