[Biochemical and experimental aspects of the lipid-lowering drugs pharmacology (author's transl)]. 1979

B Jacotot

The analysis of the mode of action of lipid-lowering drugs requires a better understanding of the lipoprotein and cholesterol metabolism processes. The strides observed during the last years in this field are conditioning the development of pharmacologic and therapeutic researches. Moreover the use of new experimental models contributes to this progress by multiplying the study ways.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D006949 Hyperlipidemias Conditions with excess LIPIDS in the blood. Hyperlipemia,Hyperlipidemia,Lipemia,Lipidemia,Hyperlipemias,Lipemias,Lipidemias
D007408 Intestinal Absorption Uptake of substances through the lining of the INTESTINES. Absorption, Intestinal
D008074 Lipoproteins Lipid-protein complexes involved in the transportation and metabolism of lipids in the body. They are spherical particles consisting of a hydrophobic core of TRIGLYCERIDES and CHOLESTEROL ESTERS surrounded by a layer of hydrophilic free CHOLESTEROL; PHOSPHOLIPIDS; and APOLIPOPROTEINS. Lipoproteins are classified by their varying buoyant density and sizes. Circulating Lipoproteins,Lipoprotein,Lipoproteins, Circulating
D002784 Cholesterol The principal sterol of all higher animals, distributed in body tissues, especially the brain and spinal cord, and in animal fats and oils. Epicholesterol
D002914 Chylomicrons A class of lipoproteins that carry dietary CHOLESTEROL and TRIGLYCERIDES from the SMALL INTESTINE to the tissues. Their density (0.93-1.006 g/ml) is the same as that of VERY-LOW-DENSITY LIPOPROTEINS. Chylomicron
D004195 Disease Models, Animal Naturally-occurring or experimentally-induced animal diseases with pathological processes analogous to human diseases. Animal Disease Model,Animal Disease Models,Disease Model, Animal
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D000960 Hypolipidemic Agents Substances that lower the levels of certain LIPIDS in the BLOOD. They are used to treat HYPERLIPIDEMIAS. Antihyperlipidemic,Antilipemic,Antilipemic Agents,Antilipemic Drug,Hypolipidemic Agent,Hypolipidemic Drug,Antihyperlipemics,Antihyperlipidemics,Antilipemic Drugs,Antilipemics,Hypolipidemic Drugs,Agent, Hypolipidemic,Agents, Antilipemic,Agents, Hypolipidemic,Drug, Antilipemic,Drug, Hypolipidemic,Drugs, Antilipemic,Drugs, Hypolipidemic
D001053 Apolipoproteins Protein components on the surface of LIPOPROTEINS. They form a layer surrounding the hydrophobic lipid core. There are several classes of apolipoproteins with each playing a different role in lipid transport and LIPID METABOLISM. These proteins are synthesized mainly in the LIVER and the INTESTINES. Apolipoprotein
