[Prostaglandin I2 (PG I2; prostacyclin) synthesis by human gastric mucosa (author's transl)]. 1979

H Sinzinger, and K Silberbauer, and H Seyfried, and M Winter

The human gastric mucosa generates prostacyclin (22 +/- 6 ng PG I2/g). There is no age or sex difference in PG I2 formation by normal gastric mucosa. The properties of the substance are the same as reported in other tissues.

D008297 Male Males
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D010974 Platelet Aggregation The attachment of PLATELETS to one another. This clumping together can be induced by a number of agents (e.g., THROMBIN; COLLAGEN) and is part of the mechanism leading to the formation of a THROMBUS. Aggregation, Platelet
D011453 Prostaglandins A group of compounds derived from unsaturated 20-carbon fatty acids, primarily arachidonic acid, via the cyclooxygenase pathway. They are extremely potent mediators of a diverse group of physiological processes. Prostaglandin,Prostanoid,Prostanoids
D011464 Epoprostenol A prostaglandin that is a powerful vasodilator and inhibits platelet aggregation. It is biosynthesized enzymatically from PROSTAGLANDIN ENDOPEROXIDES in human vascular tissue. The sodium salt has been also used to treat primary pulmonary hypertension (HYPERTENSION, PULMONARY). D005260 Female Females
D005753 Gastric Mucosa Lining of the STOMACH, consisting of an inner EPITHELIUM, a middle LAMINA PROPRIA, and an outer MUSCULARIS MUCOSAE. The surface cells produce MUCUS that protects the stomach from attack by digestive acid and enzymes. When the epithelium invaginates into the LAMINA PROPRIA at various region of the stomach (CARDIA; GASTRIC FUNDUS; and PYLORUS), different tubular gastric glands are formed. These glands consist of cells that secrete mucus, enzymes, HYDROCHLORIC ACID, or hormones.
