[Comparative evaluation of vaccinal and virulent strains of Rickettsia prowazekii by the plaque method]. 1985

R A Khamitov, and V A Pshenichnov, and P A Grabarev

The comparative evaluation of R. prowazekii vaccine and virulent strains has revealed that strain Breinl possesses greater capacity for plaque formation than strain E. The possibility of using the plaque assay for differentiation of substrains 288 and 281 of strain E has been established.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D002642 Chick Embryo The developmental entity of a fertilized chicken egg (ZYGOTE). The developmental process begins about 24 h before the egg is laid at the BLASTODISC, a small whitish spot on the surface of the EGG YOLK. After 21 days of incubation, the embryo is fully developed before hatching. Embryo, Chick,Chick Embryos,Embryos, Chick
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D012283 Rickettsia prowazekii A species of gram-negative, aerobic bacteria that is the etiologic agent of epidemic typhus fever acquired through contact with lice (TYPHUS, EPIDEMIC LOUSE-BORNE) as well as Brill's disease.
D012290 Rickettsial Vaccines Vaccines for the prevention of diseases caused by various species of Rickettsia. Vaccines, Rickettsial
D014612 Vaccines Suspensions of killed or attenuated microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa), antigenic proteins, synthetic constructs, or other bio-molecular derivatives, administered for the prevention, amelioration, or treatment of infectious and other diseases. Vaccine
D014774 Virulence The degree of pathogenicity within a group or species of microorganisms or viruses as indicated by case fatality rates and/or the ability of the organism to invade the tissues of the host. The pathogenic capacity of an organism is determined by its VIRULENCE FACTORS. Pathogenicity
