More homologies among the vertebrate plasma proteins. 1985

R F Doolittle

Many of the proteins of vertebrate blood plasma share common ancestry. As more sequences are reported, the network of relationships continues to expand in unexpected directions. Computer analysis now reveals that a minor plasma protein of unknown function, gamma-trace protein, is related to the kininogen family. Some other possible relationships have been uncovered also, including a resemblance between the histidine-rich hinge regions of high molecular weight kininogen and hemopexin and between Factor VIII and Von Willebrand Factor.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007704 Kininogens Endogenous peptides present in most body fluids. Certain enzymes convert them to active KININS which are involved in inflammation, blood clotting, complement reactions, etc. Kininogens belong to the cystatin superfamily. They are cysteine proteinase inhibitors. HIGH-MOLECULAR-WEIGHT KININOGEN; (HMWK); is split by plasma kallikrein to produce BRADYKININ. LOW-MOLECULAR-WEIGHT KININOGEN; (LMWK); is split by tissue kallikrein to produce KALLIDIN. Cystatins, Kininogen,Kininogen,Prekinins,Prokinins,T-Kininogen,Thiostatin,Kininogen Cystatins,T Kininogen
D008970 Molecular Weight The sum of the weight of all the atoms in a molecule. Molecular Weights,Weight, Molecular,Weights, Molecular

D003166 Complement Activating Enzymes Enzymes that activate one or more COMPLEMENT PROTEINS in the complement system leading to the formation of the COMPLEMENT MEMBRANE ATTACK COMPLEX, an important response in host defense. They are enzymes in the various COMPLEMENT ACTIVATION pathways. Activating Enzymes, Complement,Enzymes, Complement Activating
D003201 Computers Programmable electronic devices designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations. D005169 Factor VIII Factor VIII of blood coagulation. Antihemophilic factor that is part of the factor VIII/von Willebrand factor complex. Factor VIII is produced in the liver and acts in the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation. It serves as a cofactor in factor X activation and this action is markedly enhanced by small amounts of thrombin. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
