Posterior fossa hemangioblastomas. 1986

J P Constans, and F Meder, and F Maiuri, and R Donzelli, and R Spaziante, and E de Divitiis

The authors report 40 personal cases of infratentorial hemangioblastomas and review 36 series from the literature for a total number of 1023 patients. The clinical, pathological, and surgical features of these tumors are discussed, with particular consideration of localizations outside the nervous system, multicentric tumors, recurrences, and long-term results. Although hemangioblastomas are benign tumors, their high growth potential makes their long-term development unpredictable in some cases.

D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D009364 Neoplasm Recurrence, Local The local recurrence of a neoplasm following treatment. It arises from microscopic cells of the original neoplasm that have escaped therapeutic intervention and later become clinically visible at the original site. D001932 Brain Neoplasms Neoplasms of the intracranial components of the central nervous system, including the cerebral hemispheres, basal ganglia, hypothalamus, thalamus, brain stem, and cerebellum. Brain neoplasms are subdivided into primary (originating from brain tissue) and secondary (i.e., metastatic) forms. Primary neoplasms are subdivided into benign and malignant forms. In general, brain tumors may also be classified by age of onset, histologic type, or presenting location in the brain. D003388 Cranial Fossa, Posterior The infratentorial compartment that contains the CEREBELLUM and BRAIN STEM. It is formed by the posterior third of the superior surface of the body of the sphenoid (SPHENOID BONE), by the occipital, the petrous, and mastoid portions of the TEMPORAL BONE, and the posterior inferior angle of the PARIETAL BONE.
