Diploid-tetraploid mosaicism in a malformed boy. 1985

E Quiroz, and A Orozco, and F Salamanca

In a mentally retarded and malformed boy who is two years old, a diploid-tetraploid mosaicism was identified by G-banding. Clinical and cytogenetical findings are discussed.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008214 Lymphocytes White blood cells formed in the body's lymphoid tissue. The nucleus is round or ovoid with coarse, irregularly clumped chromatin while the cytoplasm is typically pale blue with azurophilic (if any) granules. Most lymphocytes can be classified as either T or B (with subpopulations of each), or NATURAL KILLER CELLS. Lymphoid Cells,Cell, Lymphoid,Cells, Lymphoid,Lymphocyte,Lymphoid Cell
D008297 Male Males
D008607 Intellectual Disability Subnormal intellectual functioning which originates during the developmental period. This has multiple potential etiologies, including genetic defects and perinatal insults. Intelligence quotient (IQ) scores are commonly used to determine whether an individual has an intellectual disability. IQ scores between 70 and 79 are in the borderline range. Scores below 67 are in the disabled range. D009030 Mosaicism The occurrence in an individual of two or more cell populations of different chromosomal constitutions, derived from a single ZYGOTE, as opposed to CHIMERISM in which the different cell populations are derived from more than one zygote.
D011123 Polyploidy The chromosomal constitution of a cell containing multiples of the normal number of CHROMOSOMES; includes triploidy (symbol: 3N), tetraploidy (symbol: 4N), etc. Polyploid,Polyploid Cell,Cell, Polyploid,Cells, Polyploid,Polyploid Cells,Polyploidies,Polyploids
D002675 Child, Preschool A child between the ages of 2 and 5. Children, Preschool,Preschool Child,Preschool Children
D002871 Chromosome Banding Staining of bands, or chromosome segments, allowing the precise identification of individual chromosomes or parts of chromosomes. Applications include the determination of chromosome rearrangements in malformation syndromes and cancer, the chemistry of chromosome segments, chromosome changes during evolution, and, in conjunction with cell hybridization studies, chromosome mapping. D004171 Diploidy The chromosomal constitution of cells, in which each type of CHROMOSOME is represented twice. Symbol: 2N or 2X. Diploid,Diploid Cell,Cell, Diploid,Cells, Diploid,Diploid Cells,Diploidies,Diploids

D000015 Abnormalities, Multiple Congenital abnormalities that affect more than one organ or body structure. Multiple Abnormalities
