Characterization in Micromonospora inyoensis of aminoglycoside acetyltransferase activity not previously encountered among actinomycetes. 1985

J A Salas, and E Cundliffe

Extracts of Micromonospora inyoensis contain aminoglycoside acetyltransferase activity not previously encountered among actinomycetes. Neomycin and its derivatives (excluding butirosin) are good substrates as is the novel aminoglycoside apramycin, whereas the gentamicins and kanamycins are utilized poorly if at all. Sisomicin, which is produced by M. inyoensis, is not acetylated. When neomycin was modified by extracts of M. inyoensis the product, most probably 3-N-acetylneomycin, was inactive against cell-free protein synthesis.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008847 Micromonospora A genus of gram-positive bacteria that forms a branched mycelium. It commonly occurs as a saprophytic form in soil and aquatic environments. Micromonospora echinospora
D009355 Neomycin Aminoglycoside antibiotic complex produced by Streptomyces fradiae. It is composed of neomycins A, B, and C, and acts by inhibiting translation during protein synthesis. Fradiomycin Sulfate,Neomycin Palmitate,Neomycin Sulfate
D002852 Chromatography, Ion Exchange Separation technique in which the stationary phase consists of ion exchange resins. The resins contain loosely held small ions that easily exchange places with other small ions of like charge present in solutions washed over the resins. D000123 Acetyltransferases Enzymes catalyzing the transfer of an acetyl group, usually from acetyl coenzyme A, to another compound. EC 2.3.1. Acetyltransferase
D013379 Substrate Specificity A characteristic feature of enzyme activity in relation to the kind of substrate on which the enzyme or catalytic molecule reacts. Specificities, Substrate,Specificity, Substrate,Substrate Specificities
D013696 Temperature The property of objects that determines the direction of heat flow when they are placed in direct thermal contact. The temperature is the energy of microscopic motions (vibrational and translational) of the particles of atoms. Temperatures
