[DNA-polyintercalation compounds. Synthesis of ellipticine dimers]. 1977

A Delbarre, and B P Roques, and J B le Pecq

Many symmetrical bis [9-methoxy 2-ellipticinium] dioxodiazaalkanes salts were synthesized from 9-methoxy ellipticine. An analog derivative of 9-hydroxy ellipticine was also prepared. Some of these dimers bind to DNA by a bifunctionnal mode of intercalation.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D002621 Chemistry A basic science concerned with the composition, structure, and properties of matter; and the reactions that occur between substances and the associated energy exchange.
D004247 DNA A deoxyribonucleotide polymer that is the primary genetic material of all cells. Eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms normally contain DNA in a double-stranded state, yet several important biological processes transiently involve single-stranded regions. DNA, which consists of a polysugar-phosphate backbone possessing projections of purines (adenine and guanine) and pyrimidines (thymine and cytosine), forms a double helix that is held together by hydrogen bonds between these purines and pyrimidines (adenine to thymine and guanine to cytosine). D004611 Ellipticines Pyrido-CARBAZOLES originally discovered in the bark of OCHROSIA ELLIPTICA. They inhibit DNA and RNA synthesis and have immunosuppressive properties.
D000470 Alkaloids Organic nitrogenous bases. Many alkaloids of medical importance occur in the animal and vegetable kingdoms, and some have been synthesized. (Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed) Alkaloid,Plant Alkaloid,Plant Alkaloids,Alkaloid, Plant,Alkaloids, Plant
