Sequence homology among the coat proteins of gemini viruses. 1985

J K Rao

The coat proteins of the gemini viruses - African cassava latent virus, tomato golden mosaic virus and maize streak virus - are shown to have reasonable to good amino acid sequence homology. It is suggested that the maize streak virus genome is ancestral and the bipartite genomes of the other viruses evolved from it.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D010942 Plant Viruses Viruses parasitic on plants. Phytophagineae,Plant Virus,Virus, Plant,Viruses, Plant
D002213 Capsid The outer protein protective shell of a virus, which protects the viral nucleic acid. Capsids are composed of repeating units (capsomers or capsomeres) of CAPSID PROTEINS which when assembled together form either an icosahedral or helical shape. Procapsid,Prohead,Capsids,Procapsids,Proheads
D003461 Crystallography The branch of science that deals with the geometric description of crystals and their internal arrangement. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed) Crystallographies
D000595 Amino Acid Sequence The order of amino acids as they occur in a polypeptide chain. This is referred to as the primary structure of proteins. It is of fundamental importance in determining PROTEIN CONFORMATION. D014961 X-Ray Diffraction The scattering of x-rays by matter, especially crystals, with accompanying variation in intensity due to interference effects. Analysis of the crystal structure of materials is performed by passing x-rays through them and registering the diffraction image of the rays (CRYSTALLOGRAPHY, X-RAY). (From McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed) Xray Diffraction,Diffraction, X-Ray,Diffraction, Xray,Diffractions, X-Ray,Diffractions, Xray,X Ray Diffraction,X-Ray Diffractions,Xray Diffractions
