Effect of vitamin A on hepatic microsomal drug metabolising enzymes activity in rats exposed to acute hypoxia. 1985

The hepatic drug metabolising enzymes activity has been studied in rats exposed to acute hypoxia alone or along with supplementation of single dose of 10 000 I.U. Vitamin A. Hypoxic stress reduces the activities of cytochrome P-450, cytochrome c-reductase and aniline hydroxylase. Administration of single dose of 10 000 I.U. of Vitamin A to the rats 12 h before hypoxia reverses the effect of hypoxia on these enzymes. Thus Vitamin A seems to play a protective role in rats exposed to hypoxia on the activity of MFO system.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007700 Kinetics The rate dynamics in chemical or physical systems.
D008297 Male Males
D008862 Microsomes, Liver Closed vesicles of fragmented endoplasmic reticulum created when liver cells or tissue are disrupted by homogenization. They may be smooth or rough. Liver Microsomes,Liver Microsome,Microsome, Liver
D009245 NADH Dehydrogenase A flavoprotein and iron sulfur-containing oxidoreductase that catalyzes the oxidation of NADH to NAD. In eukaryotes the enzyme can be found as a component of mitochondrial electron transport complex I. Under experimental conditions the enzyme can use CYTOCHROME C GROUP as the reducing cofactor. The enzyme was formerly listed as EC 1.6.2.1. NADH Cytochrome c Reductase,Diaphorase (NADH Dehydrogenase),NADH (Acceptor) Oxidoreductase,NADH Cytochrome c Oxidoreductase,Dehydrogenase, NADH
D011919 Rats, Inbred Strains Genetically identical individuals developed from brother and sister matings which have been carried out for twenty or more generations or by parent x offspring matings carried out with certain restrictions. This also includes animals with a long history of closed colony breeding. D003577 Cytochrome P-450 Enzyme System A superfamily of hundreds of closely related HEMEPROTEINS found throughout the phylogenetic spectrum, from animals, plants, fungi, to bacteria. They include numerous complex monooxygenases (MIXED FUNCTION OXYGENASES). In animals, these P-450 enzymes serve two major functions: (1) biosynthesis of steroids, fatty acids, and bile acids; (2) metabolism of endogenous and a wide variety of exogenous substrates, such as toxins and drugs (BIOTRANSFORMATION). They are classified, according to their sequence similarities rather than functions, into CYP gene families (>40% homology) and subfamilies (>59% homology). For example, enzymes from the CYP1, CYP2, and CYP3 gene families are responsible for most drug metabolism. D000815 Aniline Hydroxylase A drug-metabolizing, cytochrome P-450 enzyme which catalyzes the hydroxylation of aniline to hydroxyaniline in the presence of reduced flavoprotein and molecular oxygen. EC 1.14.14.-. Hydroxylase, Aniline
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
