Serum levels of immunoglobulins IgA and IgM in patients with renal cancer subjected to arterial embolization and nephrectomy. 1985

J Darewicz, and J Prokopowicz, and K Podkowicz

In 30 patients with kidney cancer the serum concentrations of immunoglobulins IgG, IgA and IgM were determined. Blood was sampled before embolization and then before and 14, 30, 90, 180 and 360 days after nephrectomy, respectively. Statistically significant increases of IgG and IgM concentrations were found immediately after nephrectomy and were more evident later on. Only a minimal increase of IgA concentration was found. Our findings may be explained by the regression of tumour due to embolization. Persisting elevation of IgG and IgM may join the stimulation of the B-cell system by cancer antigen. Such a clinical procedure may be recommended because it may favourably influence the immunological system.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007070 Immunoglobulin A Represents 15-20% of the human serum immunoglobulins, mostly as the 4-chain polymer in humans or dimer in other mammals. Secretory IgA (IMMUNOGLOBULIN A, SECRETORY) is the main immunoglobulin in secretions. IgA,IgA Antibody,IgA1,IgA2,Antibody, IgA
D007075 Immunoglobulin M A class of immunoglobulin bearing mu chains (IMMUNOGLOBULIN MU-CHAINS). IgM can fix COMPLEMENT. The name comes from its high molecular weight and originally was called a macroglobulin. Gamma Globulin, 19S,IgM,IgM Antibody,IgM1,IgM2,19S Gamma Globulin,Antibody, IgM

D004621 Embolization, Therapeutic A method of hemostasis utilizing various agents such as Gelfoam, silastic, metal, glass, or plastic pellets, autologous clot, fat, and muscle as emboli. It has been used in the treatment of spinal cord and INTRACRANIAL ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATIONS, renal arteriovenous fistulas, gastrointestinal bleeding, epistaxis, hypersplenism, certain highly vascular tumors, traumatic rupture of blood vessels, and control of operative hemorrhage.
