[Effect of diets with excess protein on nitrogen metabolism in men]. 1985

Iu A Cheremin

Studies of nitrous metabolism in men aged 30-35 kept for 10 days on isocaloric rations of natural foodstuffs with excess protein content (164 and 233 g daily) have revealed unfavourable effect of increased nitrogen intake with food on the metabolic homeostasis. Even short-term consumption of excess-protein rations results in a sharp increase of urinary excretion of all nitrous metabolites and is attended by functional overstrain of the liver playing the principal role in neutralization of nitrous metabolism. Hyperazotemia and surpassed physiologic thresholds of urea and ammonia content in the blood serum are observed already when the content of protein is increased to 164 g a day in rations for men.

D008657 Metabolic Clearance Rate Volume of biological fluid completely cleared of drug metabolites as measured in unit time. Elimination occurs as a result of metabolic processes in the kidney, liver, saliva, sweat, intestine, heart, brain, or other site. D009584 Nitrogen An element with the atomic symbol N, atomic number 7, and atomic weight [14.00643; 14.00728]. Nitrogen exists as a diatomic gas and makes up about 78% of the earth's atmosphere by volume. It is a constituent of proteins and nucleic acids and found in all living cells.
D002149 Energy Intake Total number of calories taken in daily whether ingested or by parenteral routes. Caloric Intake,Calorie Intake,Intake, Calorie,Intake, Energy

D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
D013997 Time Factors Elements of limited time intervals, contributing to particular results or situations. Time Series,Factor, Time,Time Factor
D014511 Uremia A clinical syndrome associated with the retention of renal waste products or uremic toxins in the blood. It is usually the result of RENAL INSUFFICIENCY. Most uremic toxins are end products of protein or nitrogen CATABOLISM, such as UREA or CREATININE. Severe uremia can lead to multiple organ dysfunctions with a constellation of symptoms. Uremias
