Factors influencing flexor tendon adhesions. 1985

R H Gelberman, and P R Manske

Formation of adhesions is precipitated by injury to the tendon sheath, suturing of the tendon, and immobilization. Of the factors associated with formation of adhesions, immobilization has been most extensively investigated clinically and experimentally. Early protected passive mobilization to improve flexor tendon healing is currently the most effective means of inhibiting formation of adhesions.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007103 Immobilization The restriction of the MOVEMENT of whole or part of the body by physical means (RESTRAINT, PHYSICAL) or chemically by ANALGESIA, or the use of TRANQUILIZING AGENTS or NEUROMUSCULAR NONDEPOLARIZING AGENTS. It includes experimental protocols used to evaluate the physiologic effects of immobility. Hypokinesia, Experimental,Experimental Hypokinesia,Experimental Hypokinesias,Hypokinesias, Experimental
