The decision to reconstruct the flexor mechanism should be based upon a thorough understanding of the principles and techniques of tendon grafting and comprehension of the patient's functional needs. By itself, insertion of a tendon implant with later grafting will not guarantee a satisfactory result; this procedure is no substitute for an awareness of basic rules and axioms. Careful selection, meticulous technique, and an attentive rehabilitation program will provide patients with the best results.
