[Radiation health evaluation of generators of short-lived radionuclides]. 1985

G P Kochetova, and N P Panfilov

Up-to-date 99Tcm generators commonly used in clinical diagnostic nuclear medicine departments have been assessed to compare their radiation hygienic characteristics. Based on the differentiated approach some foreign-made models of generators producing short-period radionuclides have been studied. The unified scheme of the total operating process has been built allowing the evaluation of working conditions and radiation doses for personnel at every operating stage, some experimental results are given. Conditions causing the maximum radiation doses are revealed, and some recommendations for the improvement of working environment and the reduction of the radiation dose are developed.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D011829 Radiation Dosage The amount of radiation energy that is deposited in a unit mass of material, such as tissues of plants or animal. In RADIOTHERAPY, radiation dosage is expressed in gray units (Gy). In RADIOLOGIC HEALTH, the dosage is expressed by the product of absorbed dose (Gy) and quality factor (a function of linear energy transfer), and is called radiation dose equivalent in sievert units (Sv). D011835 Radiation Protection Methods and practices adopted to protect against RADIATION. Protection, Radiation
D011876 Radionuclide Generators Separation systems containing a relatively long-lived parent radionuclide which produces a short-lived daughter in its decay scheme. The daughter can be periodically extracted (milked) by means of an appropriate eluting agent. D013667 Technetium The first artificially produced element and a radioactive fission product of URANIUM. Technetium has the atomic symbol Tc, and atomic number 43. All technetium isotopes are radioactive. Technetium 99m (m Technetium 99m,99m, Technetium
