Twenty patients with a severe form of peritonitis were observed in the postoperative period during intensive treatment and sessions of HBO. The dynamic investigation of the paramecium test, concentration of molecules of middle molecular mass, ammonia, phenol was performed during 7 first postoperative days. Changed dynamics of the paramecium test and concentration of molecules of middle molecular mass and ammonia are indicative signs of the intoxication degree and may be used for the assessment of the detoxication effect of HBO.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D010538 Peritonitis INFLAMMATION of the PERITONEUM lining the ABDOMINAL CAVITY as the result of infectious, autoimmune, or chemical processes. Primary peritonitis is due to infection of the PERITONEAL CAVITY via hematogenous or lymphatic spread and without intra-abdominal source. Secondary peritonitis arises from the ABDOMINAL CAVITY itself through RUPTURE or ABSCESS of intra-abdominal organs. It is considered effective treatment for air and gas embolisms, smoke inhalation, acute carbon monoxide poisoning, caisson disease, clostridial gangrene, etc. (From Segen, Dictionary of Modern Medicine, 1992).
