[Which arguments favour radiation therapy in induratio penis plastica? (author's transl)]. 1979

Vitamin E and percutaneous irradiation are the most common treatment regimens of Peyronie's disease. This report presents the results of 49 patients irradiated with 137Cs gamma rays. 28 of them had also received Vitamin E. An objective improvement was achieved in 37 patients (75%). Vitamin E did not show any additional benefit. In spite of the fact that these results do not permit an objective evaluation of both treatment regimens, the following advantages of radiotherapy should be considered: a) short treatment time b) low costs c) no serious side effects.

D010411 Penile Induration A condition characterized by hardening of the PENIS due to the formation of fibrous plaques on the dorsolateral aspect of the PENIS, usually involving the membrane (tunica albuginea) surrounding the erectile tissue (corpus cavernosum penis). This may eventually cause a painful deformity of the shaft or constriction of the urethra, or both. D014810 Vitamin E A generic descriptor for all TOCOPHEROLS and TOCOTRIENOLS that exhibit ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL activity. By virtue of the phenolic hydrogen on the 2H-1-benzopyran-6-ol nucleus, these compounds exhibit varying degree of antioxidant activity, depending on the site and number of methyl groups and the type of ISOPRENOIDS.
