Mutant of Bacillus subtilis with a temperature-sensitive autolytic amidase. 1973

D P Fan, and M M Beckmann

A procedure incorporating a petri plate assay for autolysins has been developed for the systematic isolation of mutants with a temperature-sensitive autolytic amidase. We suggest maa as the name for the gene for this enzyme. One such mutant has been characterized as having a heat-sensitive amidase in a variety of studies with both crude autolysin preparations and purified amidase solutions.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008094 Lithium An element in the alkali metals family. It has the atomic symbol Li, atomic number 3, and atomic weight [6.938; 6.997]. Salts of lithium are used in treating BIPOLAR DISORDER. Lithium-7,Lithium 7
D008837 Micrococcus A genus of gram-positive, spherical bacteria found in soils and fresh water, and frequently on the skin of man and other animals.
D009153 Mutagens Chemical agents that increase the rate of genetic mutation by interfering with the function of nucleic acids. A clastogen is a specific mutagen that causes breaks in chromosomes. Clastogen,Clastogens,Genotoxin,Genotoxins,Mutagen
D009154 Mutation Any detectable and heritable change in the genetic material that causes a change in the GENOTYPE and which is transmitted to daughter cells and to succeeding generations. Mutations
D009604 Nitrosoguanidines Nitrosylated derivatives of guanidine. They are used as MUTAGENS in MOLECULAR BIOLOGY research.
