[Electroretinography and electrooculography in ischemic retinopathy]. 1979

A R Thaler

Ischemic retinopathy caused by central retinal artery occlusion destroys the inner retina including the inner nuclear layer. The b-wave and the oscillatory potentials in the ERG on-response and the d-wave and the oscillatory potentials in the ERG off-response are impaired. In EOG the amplitude of the slow oscillations and the standing potential are reduced. These findings can help to localize the generators of the different ERG- and EOG-components.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D012161 Retinal Artery Central retinal artery and its branches. It arises from the ophthalmic artery, pierces the optic nerve and runs through its center, enters the eye through the porus opticus and branches to supply the retina. D012162 Retinal Degeneration A retrogressive pathological change in the retina, focal or generalized, caused by genetic defects, inflammation, trauma, vascular disease, or aging. Degeneration affecting predominantly the macula lutea of the retina is MACULAR DEGENERATION. (Newell, Ophthalmology: Principles and Concepts, 7th ed, p304) Degeneration, Retinal,Degenerations, Retinal,Retinal Degenerations
D004585 Electrooculography Recording of the average amplitude of the resting potential arising between the cornea and the retina in light and dark adaptation as the eyes turn a standard distance to the right and the left. The increase in potential with light adaptation is used to evaluate the condition of the retinal pigment epithelium. EOG,Electrooculograms,Electrooculogram
D004596 Electroretinography Recording of electric potentials in the retina after stimulation by light. Electroretinographies
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D001157 Arterial Occlusive Diseases Pathological processes which result in the partial or complete obstruction of ARTERIES. They are characterized by greatly reduced or absence of blood flow through these vessels. They are also known as arterial insufficiency.
