Buoyant density analysis of staphylococcal bacteriophage 80 transducing particles. 1969

D L Berryhill, and P A Pattee

Densities of pase, tet, and ol transducing particles were indistinguishable, and about 0.002 g x cm(-3) less dense than the plaque-forming units (PFU). The densities of the PFU and nov transducing particles were indistinguishable, the PFU having a density of 1.507 g x cm(-3).

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D002499 Centrifugation, Density Gradient Separation of particles according to density by employing a gradient of varying densities. At equilibrium each particle settles in the gradient at a point equal to its density. D013210 Staphylococcus A genus of gram-positive, facultatively anaerobic, coccoid bacteria. Its organisms occur singly, in pairs, and in tetrads and characteristically divide in more than one plane to form irregular clusters. Natural populations of Staphylococcus are found on the skin and mucous membranes of warm-blooded animals. Some species are opportunistic pathogens of humans and animals.
D014161 Transduction, Genetic The transfer of bacterial DNA by phages from an infected bacterium to another bacterium. This also refers to the transfer of genes into eukaryotic cells by viruses. This naturally occurring process is routinely employed as a GENE TRANSFER TECHNIQUE. Genetic Transduction,Genetic Transductions,Transductions, Genetic
D014776 Virus Cultivation Process of growing viruses in live animals, plants, or cultured cells. Viral Cultivation,Cultivation, Viral,Cultivation, Virus,Cultivations, Viral,Cultivations, Virus,Viral Cultivations,Virus Cultivations
