Preparation of insoluble collagen from human cartilage. 1973

F S Steven, and H Thomas

A simple technique is described for the removal of proteoglycans from human cartilage by sequential treatments with H(2)O(2) followed by trypsin digestion. The resultant fibres contain no uronic acids and have the amino acid composition of highly purified collagen.

D006025 Glycosaminoglycans Heteropolysaccharides which contain an N-acetylated hexosamine in a characteristic repeating disaccharide unit. The repeating structure of each disaccharide involves alternate 1,4- and 1,3-linkages consisting of either N-acetylglucosamine (see ACETYLGLUCOSAMINE) or N-acetylgalactosamine (see ACETYLGALACTOSAMINE). D012995 Solubility The ability of a substance to be dissolved, i.e. to form a solution with another substance. (From McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 6th ed) Solubilities
D014357 Trypsin A serine endopeptidase that is formed from TRYPSINOGEN in the pancreas. It is converted into its active form by ENTEROPEPTIDASE in the small intestine. It catalyzes hydrolysis of the carboxyl group of either arginine or lysine. EC 3.4.21.4. Tripcellim,Trypure,beta-Trypsin,beta Trypsin
