Red cell-mediated microinjection of macromolecules into monolayer cultures of mammalian cells. 1979

W E Mercer, and D J Terefinko, and R A Schlegel

Phytohemagglutinin has been used to enhance the red cell-mediated microinjection of macromolecules into monolayer cultures of mammalian cells. The simple procedure described should promote the wider use of this microinjection technique.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008845 Microinjections The injection of very small amounts of fluid, often with the aid of a microscope and microsyringes. Microinjection
D010835 Phytohemagglutinins Mucoproteins isolated from the kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris); some of them are mitogenic to lymphocytes, others agglutinate all or certain types of erythrocytes or lymphocytes. They are used mainly in the study of immune mechanisms and in cell culture. D011092 Polyethylene Glycols Polymers of ETHYLENE OXIDE and water, and their ethers. They vary in consistency from liquid to solid depending on the molecular weight indicated by a number following the name. They are used as SURFACTANTS, dispersing agents, solvents, ointment and suppository bases, vehicles, and tablet excipients. Some specific groups are NONOXYNOLS, OCTOXYNOLS, and POLOXAMERS.
