Influence of rifampicin on D.D.S. excretion in urine. 1979

S Balakrishnan, and P S Sheshadri

The plasma half-lives and urinary excretion levels of DDS were compared before and during concurrent administration of Rifampicin in 23 cases of active lepromatous leprosy. The plasma half-life of DDS was found to be slightly less during Rifampicin administration. The urinary excretion of DDS was found to be consistently enhanced in all the cases, particularly duotal duration of Rifampicin therapy. The findings are discussed.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007918 Leprosy A chronic granulomatous infection caused by MYCOBACTERIUM LEPRAE. The granulomatous lesions are manifested in the skin, the mucous membranes, and the peripheral nerves. Two polar or principal types are lepromatous and tuberculoid. Hansen's Disease,Hansen Disease
D008297 Male Males
D003622 Dapsone A sulfone active against a wide range of bacteria but mainly employed for its actions against MYCOBACTERIUM LEPRAE. Its mechanism of action is probably similar to that of the SULFONAMIDES which involves inhibition of folic acid synthesis in susceptible organisms. It is also used with PYRIMETHAMINE in the treatment of malaria. D005260 Female Females
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
D012293 Rifampin A semisynthetic antibiotic produced from Streptomyces mediterranei. It has a broad antibacterial spectrum, including activity against several forms of Mycobacterium. In susceptible organisms it inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity by forming a stable complex with the enzyme. It thus suppresses the initiation of RNA synthesis. Rifampin is bactericidal, and acts on both intracellular and extracellular organisms.
