Comparison of human serum dopamine-beta-hydroxylase levels by radioimmunoassay and enzymatic assay. 1974

Human serum dopamine-beta-hydroxylase (3,4-dihydroxyphenylethylamine, ascorbate:oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.14.17.1) has been measured in a normal adult population by both enzymatic assay and by radioimmunoassay. The levels of enzymatic activity varied over a very wide range from 0.6 units/ml to 85 units/ml. In contrast, the amount of total dopamine-beta-hydroxylase protein present in these samples, as measured by radioimmunoassay, varied only over a 3-fold range: from 11.7 mug/ml to 34.4 mug/ml. From an analysis of the purified enzyme, the percentage of serum dopamine-beta-hydroxylase that was catalytically active was estimated to be small and variable.

D011817 Rabbits A burrowing plant-eating mammal with hind limbs that are longer than its fore limbs. It belongs to the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha, and in contrast to hares, possesses 22 instead of 24 pairs of chromosomes. D011863 Radioimmunoassay Classic quantitative assay for detection of antigen-antibody reactions using a radioactively labeled substance (radioligand) either directly or indirectly to measure the binding of the unlabeled substance to a specific antibody or other receptor system. Non-immunogenic substances (e.g., haptens) can be measured if coupled to larger carrier proteins (e.g., bovine gamma-globulin or human serum albumin) capable of inducing antibody formation. Radioimmunoassays

D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D014439 Tyramine An indirect sympathomimetic that occurs naturally in cheese and other foods. Tyramine does not directly activate adrenergic receptors, but it can serve as a substrate for adrenergic uptake systems and MONOAMINE OXIDASE to prolong the actions of adrenergic transmitters. It also provokes transmitter release from adrenergic terminals and may be a neurotransmitter in some invertebrate nervous systems. 4-(2-Aminoethyl)phenol,4-Hydroxyphenethylamine,p-Tyramine,para-Tyramine,4 Hydroxyphenethylamine
