On account of the evolution of the concept of health care in developing countries, the author describes the new orientation of the medical training at the Swiss Tropical Institute. For this purpose, the miscellaneous problems met, as well as their solutions, are presented. The training of physicians in tropical medicine is more and more taking the shape of a preparation to "development medicine".
