[Nonpathogenic Neisseria studied for the content of histidine decarboxylase]. 1979

S S Rakov, and V N Fedoseeva, and I I Votrin

Histidine decarboxylase activity was not found in cells of nonpathogenic neisseria, obtained from bronchi of patients with infectious asthma. The absence of the histidine decarboxylase activity in nonpathogenic neisseria cells suggests that the sensitizing activity of these cells was not caused by a direct effect of histamine of bacterial origin on human branchopulmonary tissues.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009343 Neisseria A genus of gram-negative, aerobic, coccoid bacteria whose organisms are part of the normal flora of the oropharynx, nasopharynx, and genitourinary tract. Some species are primary pathogens for humans.
D001980 Bronchi The larger air passages of the lungs arising from the terminal bifurcation of the TRACHEA. They include the largest two primary bronchi which branch out into secondary bronchi, and tertiary bronchi which extend into BRONCHIOLES and PULMONARY ALVEOLI. D002262 Carboxy-Lyases Enzymes that catalyze the addition of a carboxyl group to a compound (carboxylases) or the removal of a carboxyl group from a compound (decarboxylases). EC 4.1.1. Carboxy-Lyase,Decarboxylase,Decarboxylases,Carboxy Lyase,Carboxy Lyases
D004789 Enzyme Activation Conversion of an inactive form of an enzyme to one possessing metabolic activity. It includes 1, activation by ions (activators); 2, activation by cofactors (coenzymes); and 3, conversion of an enzyme precursor (proenzyme or zymogen) to an active enzyme. Activation, Enzyme,Activations, Enzyme,Enzyme Activations
D006640 Histidine Decarboxylase An enzyme that catalyzes the decarboxylation of histidine to histamine and carbon dioxide. It requires pyridoxal phosphate in animal tissues, but not in microorganisms. EC 4.1.1.22. Histidine Carboxy-Lyase,Carboxy-Lyase, Histidine,Decarboxylase, Histidine,Histidine Carboxy Lyase
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D001249 Asthma A form of bronchial disorder with three distinct components: airway hyper-responsiveness (RESPIRATORY HYPERSENSITIVITY), airway INFLAMMATION, and intermittent AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION. It is characterized by spasmodic contraction of airway smooth muscle, WHEEZING, and dyspnea (DYSPNEA, PAROXYSMAL). Asthma, Bronchial,Bronchial Asthma,Asthmas
