Quality control of colloid and particulate 99mTc-labeled radiopharmaceuticals. 1979

E P Belkas, and S Archimandritis

A procedure for the radiochemical purity control of colloid and particulate 99mTc-labeled radiopharmaceuticals is described. The proposed technique is based on the use of two chromatograms, using in both, 15% H3PO4 as solvent and impregnated glass fiber media (Gelman ITLC type SG) as stationary phase. A pretreatment of the radiopharmaceutical with 6 N NaOH is involved prior to one chromatographic run. The procedure is fast and the different species (free pertechnetate, 99mTc-Sn-colloid and labeled 99mTc) in a 99mTc-labeled radiopharmaceutical can be determined accurately and with reliability.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007553 Isotope Labeling Techniques for labeling a substance with a stable or radioactive isotope. It is not used for articles involving labeled substances unless the methods of labeling are substantively discussed. Tracers that may be labeled include chemical substances, cells, or microorganisms. D011786 Quality Control A system for verifying and maintaining a desired level of quality in a product or process by careful planning, use of proper equipment, continued inspection, and corrective action as required. (Random House Unabridged Dictionary, 2d ed) Control, Quality,Controls, Quality,Quality Controls
D003102 Colloids Two-phase systems in which one is uniformly dispersed in another as particles small enough so they cannot be filtered or will not settle out. The dispersing or continuous phase or medium envelops the particles of the discontinuous phase. All three states of matter can form colloids among each other. Hydrocolloids,Colloid,Hydrocolloid
D012709 Serum Albumin A major protein in the BLOOD. It is important in maintaining the colloidal osmotic pressure and transporting large organic molecules. Plasma Albumin,Albumin, Serum
D013455 Sulfur An element that is a member of the chalcogen family. It has an atomic symbol S, atomic number 16, and atomic weight [32.059; 32.076]. It is found in the amino acids cysteine and methionine. Sulfur-16,Sulfur 16
D013667 Technetium The first artificially produced element and a radioactive fission product of URANIUM. Technetium has the atomic symbol Tc, and atomic number 43. All technetium isotopes are radioactive. Technetium 99m (m Technetium 99m,99m, Technetium
D014001 Tin A trace element that is required in bone formation. It has the atomic symbol Sn, atomic number 50, and atomic weight 118.71. Stannum
