The general medicine consult service in a university teaching hospital. 1979

G R Burke, and L C Corman

A general internal medicine consult service that provides continuity of care, availability, and preoperative out-patient consultation was instituted at UCDMC in September 1977. The volume and source of consultations increased dramatically with little impact on the medical specialty consult services. We believe the organization of our consult service has helped to provide optimal training in an often neglected area of Internal Medicine.
