Heritable fragile sites on human chromosomes. IV. Silver staining. 1979

G R Sutherland, and P Leonard

The chromosomal gaps associated with fragile sites at 2q11, 10q23, 11q13, 16q22, 20p11 and Xq27 do not stain with silver nitrate as do NOR regions of the acrocentric chromosomes.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008214 Lymphocytes White blood cells formed in the body's lymphoid tissue. The nucleus is round or ovoid with coarse, irregularly clumped chromatin while the cytoplasm is typically pale blue with azurophilic (if any) granules. Most lymphocytes can be classified as either T or B (with subpopulations of each), or NATURAL KILLER CELLS. Lymphoid Cells,Cell, Lymphoid,Cells, Lymphoid,Lymphocyte,Lymphoid Cell
D008297 Male Males
D009697 Nucleolus Organizer Region The chromosome region which is active in nucleolus formation and which functions in the synthesis of ribosomal RNA. D002871 Chromosome Banding Staining of bands, or chromosome segments, allowing the precise identification of individual chromosomes or parts of chromosomes. Applications include the determination of chromosome rearrangements in malformation syndromes and cancer, the chemistry of chromosome segments, chromosome changes during evolution, and, in conjunction with cell hybridization studies, chromosome mapping. D002877 Chromosomes, Human Very long DNA molecules and associated proteins, HISTONES, and non-histone chromosomal proteins (CHROMOSOMAL PROTEINS, NON-HISTONE). Normally 46 chromosomes, including two sex chromosomes are found in the nucleus of human cells. They carry the hereditary information of the individual.
