[Hemoglobins, XXI: sequence analysis of porcine hemoglobin (author's transl)]. 1978

G Braunitzer, and B Schrank, and A Stangl, and U Scheithauer

The hemoglobin of a bavarian domestic pig (Suidae) was isolated. The chains were separated by countercurrent distribution, then cleaved with trypsin. The isolated peptides were sequenced with hydrophilic phenylisothiocyanate I and IV, or with a dimethylaminopropyne program in the sequenator. The sequences of the chains are given. Some methodical aspects of automatic sequencing are discussed and the sequences of human porcine hemoglobin are compared. The role of adult pig haemoglobin as foetal hemoglobin is discussed.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D010455 Peptides Members of the class of compounds composed of AMINO ACIDS joined together by peptide bonds between adjacent amino acids into linear, branched or cyclical structures. OLIGOPEPTIDES are composed of approximately 2-12 amino acids. Polypeptides are composed of approximately 13 or more amino acids. PROTEINS are considered to be larger versions of peptides that can form into complex structures such as ENZYMES and RECEPTORS. Peptide,Polypeptide,Polypeptides
D010710 Phosphates Inorganic salts of phosphoric acid. Inorganic Phosphate,Phosphates, Inorganic,Inorganic Phosphates,Orthophosphate,Phosphate,Phosphate, Inorganic
D011247 Pregnancy The status during which female mammals carry their developing young (EMBRYOS or FETUSES) in utero before birth, beginning from FERTILIZATION to BIRTH. Gestation,Pregnancies
D005260 Female Females
D005319 Fetal Hemoglobin The major component of hemoglobin in the fetus. This HEMOGLOBIN has two alpha and two gamma polypeptide subunits in comparison to normal adult hemoglobin, which has two alpha and two beta polypeptide subunits. Fetal hemoglobin concentrations can be elevated (usually above 0.5%) in children and adults affected by LEUKEMIA and several types of ANEMIA. Hemoglobin F,Hemoglobin, Fetal
D005860 Germany, West The former Federal Republic of Germany which was reunified with the former German Democratic Republic in 1990. Federal Republic of Germany,Germany, Federal Republic of
D005994 Glycerophosphates Any salt or ester of glycerophosphoric acid. Glycerolphosphate,Glycerophosphate,Calcium Glycerophosphate,Glycerolphosphates,Glycerophosphate, Calcium
D006454 Hemoglobins The oxygen-carrying proteins of ERYTHROCYTES. They are found in all vertebrates and some invertebrates. The number of globin subunits in the hemoglobin quaternary structure differs between species. Structures range from monomeric to a variety of multimeric arrangements. Eryhem,Ferrous Hemoglobin,Hemoglobin,Hemoglobin, Ferrous
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
