[Consulting office tissue banks (author's transl)]. 1978

J Naujoks, and P Ohnsorge, and S Hornung

The technicalities of obtaining graft tissues and the methods of preserving homograft ossicles and cartilage are described. The chemical and biological problems of tissue banks are discussed practically in relation to published experiences of others. The techniques for use of homograft ossicles in tympanoplasty surgery are described. The comparative ease of preparation and preservation of homograft ossicles and hyaline cartilage justifies the establishment of tissue banks in the practice of the private otologist.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009300 Nasal Septum The partition separating the two NASAL CAVITIES in the midplane. It is formed by the SEPTAL NASAL CARTILAGE, parts of skull bones (ETHMOID BONE; VOMER), and membranous parts. Nasal Septums,Septum, Nasal,Septums, Nasal
D002356 Cartilage A non-vascular form of connective tissue composed of CHONDROCYTES embedded in a matrix that includes CHONDROITIN SULFATE and various types of FIBRILLAR COLLAGEN. There are three major types: HYALINE CARTILAGE; FIBROCARTILAGE; and ELASTIC CARTILAGE. Cartilages
D004429 Ear Ossicles A mobile chain of three small bones (INCUS; MALLEUS; STAPES) in the TYMPANIC CAVITY between the TYMPANIC MEMBRANE and the oval window on the wall of INNER EAR. Sound waves are converted to vibration by the tympanic membrane then transmitted via these ear ossicles to the inner ear. D005557 Formaldehyde A highly reactive aldehyde gas formed by oxidation or incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. In solution, it has a wide range of uses: in the manufacture of resins and textiles, as a disinfectant, and as a laboratory fixative or preservative. Formaldehyde solution (formalin) is considered a hazardous compound, and its vapor toxic. (From Reynolds, Martindale The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p717) Formalin,Formol,Methanal,Oxomethane
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D014015 Tissue Banks Centers for acquiring, characterizing, and storing organs or tissue for future use. Tissue Banking,Bank, Tissue,Banking, Tissue,Banks, Tissue,Tissue Bank
D014021 Tissue Preservation The process by which a tissue or aggregate of cells is kept alive outside of the organism from which it was derived (i.e., kept from decay by means of a chemical agent, cooling, or a fluid substitute that mimics the natural state within the organism). Preservation, Tissue,Preservations, Tissue,Tissue Preservations
D014184 Transplantation, Homologous Transplantation between individuals of the same species. Usually refers to genetically disparate individuals in contradistinction to isogeneic transplantation for genetically identical individuals. Transplantation, Allogeneic,Allogeneic Grafting,Allogeneic Transplantation,Allografting,Homografting,Homologous Transplantation,Grafting, Allogeneic
D014433 Tympanoplasty Surgical reconstruction of the hearing mechanism of the middle ear, with restoration of the drum membrane to protect the round window from sound pressure, and establishment of ossicular continuity between the tympanic membrane and the oval window. (Dorland, 28th ed.) Tympanoplasties
