Time of ovulation in ewes after treatment with a prostaglandin F-2alpha analogue. 1978

S Acritopoulou, and W Haresign, and G E Lamming

Treatment of 18 cyclic Clun Forest ewes with two i.m. injections of ICI 80,996, given 9 days apart and without reference to stage of the oestrous cycle, synchronized ovulation in all ewes at a mean time interval of 73.1 +/- 1.6 (s.e.m.) h from the second injection. The interval from the LH peak to ovulation was 22.6 +/- 0.7 h and this is comparable to previously reported gigures for a natural oestrus.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007986 Luteinizing Hormone A major gonadotropin secreted by the adenohypophysis (PITUITARY GLAND, ANTERIOR). Luteinizing hormone regulates steroid production by the interstitial cells of the TESTIS and the OVARY. The preovulatory LUTEINIZING HORMONE surge in females induces OVULATION, and subsequent LUTEINIZATION of the follicle. LUTEINIZING HORMONE consists of two noncovalently linked subunits, alpha and beta. Within a species, the alpha subunit is common in the three pituitary glycoprotein hormones (TSH, LH and FSH), but the beta subunit is unique and confers its biological specificity. D010060 Ovulation The discharge of an OVUM from a rupturing follicle in the OVARY. Ovulations
D011247 Pregnancy The status during which female mammals carry their developing young (EMBRYOS or FETUSES) in utero before birth, beginning from FERTILIZATION to BIRTH. Gestation,Pregnancies
D011461 Prostaglandins F, Synthetic Analogs or derivatives of prostaglandins F that do not occur naturally in the body. They do not include the product of the chemical synthesis of hormonal PGF. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
