In an effort to determine if there might be an association between Guillain-Barré syndrome and specific antigens of the HLA system, 18 patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome were typed for HLA-A, B, and D antigens. No statistically significant relationship was established by this study.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D011129 Polyradiculoneuropathy Diseases characterized by injury or dysfunction involving multiple peripheral nerves and nerve roots. The process may primarily affect myelin or nerve axons. Two of the more common demyelinating forms are acute inflammatory polyradiculopathy (GUILLAIN-BARRE SYNDROME) and POLYRADICULONEUROPATHY, CHRONIC INFLAMMATORY DEMYELINATING. Polyradiculoneuritis refers to inflammation of multiple peripheral nerves and spinal nerve roots. D006680 HLA Antigens Antigens determined by leukocyte loci found on chromosome 6, the major histocompatibility loci in humans. They are polypeptides or glycoproteins found on most nucleated cells and platelets, determine tissue types for transplantation, and are associated with certain diseases.
