Total synthesis of acetate from CO2. II. Purification and properties of formyltetrahydrofolate synthetase from Clostridium thermoaceticum. 1969

A Y Sun, and L Ljungdahl, and H G Wood

Formyltetrahydrofolate synthetase from Clostridium thermoaceticum had optimal activity at 55 to 60 C. K(m) values were: adenosine triphosphate (ATP), 6.25 x 10(-4)m; formate, 1.67 x 10(-3)m; and tetrahydrofolate, 1.00 x 10(-3)m; at pH 8.0. There was a requirement for divalent metals and specifically for ATP.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007700 Kinetics The rate dynamics in chemical or physical systems.
D008025 Ligases A class of enzymes that catalyze the formation of a bond between two substrate molecules, coupled with the hydrolysis of a pyrophosphate bond in ATP or a similar energy donor. (Dorland, 28th ed) EC 6. Ligase,Synthetases,Synthetase
D003013 Clostridium A genus of motile or nonmotile gram-positive bacteria of the family Clostridiaceae. Many species have been identified with some being pathogenic. They occur in water, soil, and in the intestinal tract of humans and lower animals.
D005492 Folic Acid A member of the vitamin B family that stimulates the hematopoietic system. It is present in the liver and kidney and is found in mushrooms, spinach, yeast, green leaves, and grasses (POACEAE). Folic acid is used in the treatment and prevention of folate deficiencies and megaloblastic anemia.
