Lipid composition and enzyme activities of human arteriosclerotic femoral and iliac arteries. 1977

J Patelski, and B Pniewska-Plotast, and W Majewski, and S Zapalski

Lipid composition and the activities of lipolytic enzymes and cholesterol acyltransferase have been examined in femoral and iliac arteries of surgically treated patients suffering from arteriosclerosis obliterans. Negative correlations for the contents of triglycerides and cholesterol esters, and for the ratios of triglyceride/cholesterol ester contents and cholesterol acyltransferase/cholesterol esterase activities, were found.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007083 Iliac Artery Either of two large arteries originating from the abdominal aorta; they supply blood to the pelvis, abdominal wall and legs. Deep Circumflex Iliac Artery,Arteries, Iliac,Artery, Iliac,Iliac Arteries
D008049 Lipase An enzyme of the hydrolase class that catalyzes the reaction of triacylglycerol and water to yield diacylglycerol and a fatty acid anion. It is produced by glands on the tongue and by the pancreas and initiates the digestion of dietary fats. (From Dorland, 27th ed) EC 3.1.1.3. D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D010740 Phospholipases A class of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of phosphoglycerides or glycerophosphatidates. EC 3.1.-. Lecithinases,Lecithinase,Phospholipase
D010743 Phospholipids Lipids containing one or more phosphate groups, particularly those derived from either glycerol (phosphoglycerides see GLYCEROPHOSPHOLIPIDS) or sphingosine (SPHINGOLIPIDS). They are polar lipids that are of great importance for the structure and function of cell membranes and are the most abundant of membrane lipids, although not stored in large amounts in the system. Phosphatides,Phospholipid
D002784 Cholesterol The principal sterol of all higher animals, distributed in body tissues, especially the brain and spinal cord, and in animal fats and oils. Epicholesterol
D002785 Sterol O-Acyltransferase An enzyme that catalyzes the formation of cholesterol esters by the direct transfer of the fatty acid group from a fatty acyl CoA derivative. This enzyme has been found in the adrenal gland, gonads, liver, intestinal mucosa, and aorta of many mammalian species. EC 2.3.1.26.
