Chromosome aberrations: increased incidence in bone marrow of continuously irradiated rats. 1966

O Chlebovský, and M Praslicka, and J Horak

The number of chromosomal aberrations in the bone marrow of continuously irradiated rats temporarily decreases after exposure, and then increases as the total dose and time after irradiation increase. This increase in aberrations is greater than that expected as a result of age alone.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D011830 Radiation Effects The effects of ionizing and nonionizing radiation upon living organisms, organs and tissues, and their constituents, and upon physiologic processes. It includes the effect of irradiation on food, drugs, and chemicals. Effects, Radiation,Effect, Radiation,Radiation Effect
D001853 Bone Marrow The soft tissue filling the cavities of bones. Bone marrow exists in two types, yellow and red. Yellow marrow is found in the large cavities of large bones and consists mostly of fat cells and a few primitive blood cells. Red marrow is a hematopoietic tissue and is the site of production of erythrocytes and granular leukocytes. Bone marrow is made up of a framework of connective tissue containing branching fibers with the frame being filled with marrow cells. D002869 Chromosome Aberrations Abnormal number or structure of chromosomes. Chromosome aberrations may result in CHROMOSOME DISORDERS. D003036 Cobalt Isotopes Stable cobalt atoms that have the same atomic number as the element cobalt, but differ in atomic weight. Co-59 is a stable cobalt isotope. Isotopes, Cobalt
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
