Scanning with macroaggregates of radioiodinated human serum albumin as an adjunct to celiac arteriography: a preliminary communication. 1966

When macroaggregates of radioiodinated human serum albumin are injected into the celiac axis at the conclusion of celiac arteriography, satisfactory scans in which hepatic, splenic and pancreatic-duodenal out-lines are present can be obtained. Following preliminary experiments in dogs, five patients were scanned after celiac arteriography and injection of macroaggregates. No adverse reactions were noted and good delineation of upper abdominal viscera was possible. One case demonstrated good clinical-pathological correlation, in that tumour site and extent, and cirrhosis were predictable from the antemortem scan.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008099 Liver A large lobed glandular organ in the abdomen of vertebrates that is responsible for detoxification, metabolism, synthesis and storage of various substances. Livers
D010179 Pancreas A nodular organ in the ABDOMEN that contains a mixture of ENDOCRINE GLANDS and EXOCRINE GLANDS. The small endocrine portion consists of the ISLETS OF LANGERHANS secreting a number of hormones into the blood stream. The large exocrine portion (EXOCRINE PANCREAS) is a compound acinar gland that secretes several digestive enzymes into the pancreatic ductal system that empties into the DUODENUM.
D011877 Radionuclide Imaging The production of an image obtained by cameras that detect the radioactive emissions of an injected radionuclide as it has distributed differentially throughout tissues in the body. The image obtained from a moving detector is called a scan, while the image obtained from a stationary camera device is called a scintiphotograph. D002445 Celiac Artery The arterial trunk that arises from the abdominal aorta and after a short course divides into the left gastric, common hepatic and splenic arteries. Arteries, Celiac,Artery, Celiac,Celiac Arteries
D004285 Dogs The domestic dog, Canis familiaris, comprising about 400 breeds, of the carnivore family CANIDAE. They are worldwide in distribution and live in association with people. (Walker's Mammals of the World, 5th ed, p1065) Canis familiaris,Dog
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000792 Angiography Radiography of blood vessels after injection of a contrast medium. Arteriography,Angiogram,Angiograms,Angiographies,Arteriographies
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D012711 Serum Albumin, Radio-Iodinated Normal human serum albumin mildly iodinated with radioactive iodine (131-I) which has a half-life of 8 days, and emits beta and gamma rays. It is used as a diagnostic aid in blood volume determination. D013154 Spleen An encapsulated lymphatic organ through which venous blood filters.
