Technique of testicular autotransplantation using a microvascular anastomosis. 1980

J Wacksman, and M Dinner, and R A Staffon

The use of the operating room microscope to accomplish microscopic anastomosis is gaining wider application. The technique to accomplish autotransplantation of the intra-abdominal testes involves division of the spermatic artery and vein with reanastomosis to the inferior epigastric vessels under the operating room microscope. The over-all success rate cannot be assessed without long term follow-up study, but this procedure offers more potential success than vascular pedicle division alone and will eliminate staged orchiopexy.

D008297 Male Males
D008866 Microsurgery The performance of surgical procedures with the aid of a microscope.
D003456 Cryptorchidism A developmental defect in which a TESTIS or both TESTES failed to descend from high in the ABDOMEN to the bottom of the SCROTUM. Testicular descent is essential to normal SPERMATOGENESIS which requires temperature lower than the BODY TEMPERATURE. Cryptorchidism can be subclassified by the location of the maldescended testis.
