Osteoclasts from patients with Paget's disease of bone contained viral antigenic material. Ultrastructural and immunological studies suggested that measles or measles-related virus was the agent involved.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007181 Inclusion Bodies, Viral An area showing altered staining behavior in the nucleus or cytoplasm of a virus-infected cell. Some inclusion bodies represent "virus factories" in which viral nucleic acid or protein is being synthesized; others are merely artifacts of fixation and staining. One example, Negri bodies, are found in the cytoplasm or processes of nerve cells in animals that have died from rabies. D008459 Measles virus The type species of MORBILLIVIRUS and the cause of the highly infectious human disease MEASLES, which affects mostly children. Edmonston virus
D010001 Osteitis Deformans A disease marked by repeated episodes of increased bone resorption followed by excessive attempts at repair, resulting in weakened, deformed bones of increased mass. The resultant architecture of the bone assumes a mosaic pattern in which the fibers take on a haphazard pattern instead of the normal parallel symmetry. D010010 Osteoclasts A large multinuclear cell associated with the BONE RESORPTION. An odontoclast, also called cementoclast, is cytomorphologically the same as an osteoclast and is involved in CEMENTUM resorption. Odontoclasts,Cementoclast,Cementoclasts,Odontoclast,Osteoclast
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000956 Antigens, Viral Substances elaborated by viruses that have antigenic activity. Viral Antigen,Viral Antigens,Antigen, Viral
