[Biochemical typing of salmonellae by a miniaturized system (API - 50 E) (author's transl)]. 1977

The biochemical properties of clinical isolates of Salmonella have been studied by means of a commercially available miniaturized system (API - 50 E), which permit an easier examination of 50 chemical reactions. This miniaturized system seems to be helpfull not only in epidemiological researches but also in characterization of "atypical strains".

D012475 Salmonella A genus of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria that utilizes citrate as a sole carbon source. It is pathogenic for humans, causing enteric fevers, gastroenteritis, and bacteremia. Food poisoning is the most common clinical manifestation. Organisms within this genus are separated on the basis of antigenic characteristics, sugar fermentation patterns, and bacteriophage susceptibility.
